Trek adventures in space often involve high-stakes battles directed by aliens. This confrontation takes place on the planet Excalbia. The Enterprise had been sent to survey the planet, "thought to consist of nothing
but a lava-like surface without inhabitants." Lava is the end and beginning of civilization, as in Fantasia, The Last Days of Pompeii,
and liquid rock deep inside Mt. Doom in Middle-earth. Lava is considered the most valuable raw material on earth or beneath its surface.
It is one of the few raw materials that combines all the elements: liquid earth, fire, all fueled by air and moved by akasha. Magic formulae rely on the selection of the form most suited to transmit-convey electro-magnetic energy through the vessel once it is, at least, semi-firm. Study of the Temple of Luxor provides ample evidence of this technique.
The image of Abraham Lincoln appears in space and requests to be beamed aboard, claiming to be the genuine Lincoln [probably a part of Kirk's higher self]. Against McCoy's objections, Kirk and Spock beam the entity aboard.
The aliens have an objective behind the subtle manipulation of memory patterns culled from Kirk and Spock, namely to know the personal heroic figures from Earth history and Vulcan's distant past. The unexpected appearance of Lincoln and Sarek seem to make a clear case the Excalbians are sincere. The 'plain of Mars
set' appears frequently in Star Trek because it represents choice [Mercury, Mars], dedication of willpower [Mars], and the path we decide to travel [Mercury] in life.
Battles between 'good and evil' [Virgo, Earth sign ruled by Mercury] - can transfer symbolic energy to a literal formation in the material world - characters and situations, as well as environment, taken on - as an ongoing
process. We refer to it all as "a work in progress."
The highly charged atmosphere in the Star Trek episode is there for the lawman [Gary Cooper] in the sweltering, bone dry heat of High Noon, the Hobbits singed in the fiery interior of Mount Doom, in The Lord of the Rings,

The Savage Curtain adds suspense, tension and an additional trap for Kirk and Spock beyond the basic Mars confrontation that boils down to a choice between casting the hex or exorcism. The Enterprise officers refuse to fight, so Yarnek freezes the starship's engines, starting a breakdown of the matter/antimatter shielding. Then the clock starts to tick.

SECRETS YOUR NAILS REVEAL
The eyes may be the window to the soul, but your fingernails may provide a peek into the status of your health.
Your nails are made of keratin, the same type of protein that goes into your hair. Each nail actually consists of several parts, all of which play an important role in its health and growth:
- Nail plate: This is what you see as the fingernail.
- Nail bed: This lies below the nail plate; the two are attached. The capillaries in the nail bed nourish the nail and give it its pinkish colour.
- Nail matrix: You don't see most of this, yet it may be the most important. It's below the cuticle at the base of the nail. Cells in the matrix produce the fingernail. If the matrix gets damaged, your nail will be distorted or may even stop growing completely.
- Lunula: This is the part of the matrix that you can see. It's the moon-shaped portion at the bottom of your nail.
- Cuticle: This fold of skin, made of dead cells, keeps foreign substances, like infection-causing bacteria, out.
- Nail fold: The nail fold is the ridge of skin around the nail.
- Your fingernails grow about one-eighth of an inch each month. Fingernails grow faster than toenails. Nails on the longest fingers grow the fastest. If you're right-handed, nails on that hand grow faster than on your left hand; the opposite is true for lefties. Fingernails will also grow faster during the summer, during pregnancy, and when they are recovering from injury.
General tips about the health of your nails:
- Pale or bluish nails: This may indicate anemia.
- Pink colour slow in returning when nail is squeezed: may indicate decreased on slowed blood circulation. Check this out with a self-test. Depress index finger of your non-dominant hand in middle of your other palm to see how quickly a normal colour returns to the palm. Try this at the very top of the palm, under your middle finger, above your Fate Line, then the middle palm, in the plain of Mars, and at the base of your thumb. If the palm takes 'too long' to go normal you may want to update your fitness program.
- White spots: These occur as the result of an injury to the nail.
- Protect your hands and your nails by wearing gloves when doing work around home and garden. Some people wear cotton gloves under their vinyl gloves for wet work. Reduce use of nail polish remover once a week when possible.
